Here at last after two years of trying, is my first ripe tomato of the rare variety Marmande Rouge Garnier-which hopefully will provide enough seeds for next years crop.

There are of course several other fruit higher up the plant which have yet to ripen-Some of them bigger.
This Tomato is about 3/4 of a pound in weight, and was the first tomato on the bottom truss to ripen.-lets hope it tastes good too :P

It is not quite as ruffled round the edges in shape as I thought it was going to be, but that may be due to temp fluctuations and other factor-we shall see what the other fruit turn out like further up the plant usually tomatoes from the fifth truss on a plant are usually the biggest and also give a truer indication of the true shape etc.

Taste finally proved to be rather nice, slightly smokey flavor and very savoury and lingering aftertaste,. I got about a hundred seeds out of this one, the seeds all appeared to be in little irregular pockets of them all over the two halves and it took me about fifteen minutes winkling them all out into a sieve , which are now drying on a shelf in the main living room
